Delhi court grants custody parole to Engineer Rashid to take Lok Sabha MP oath

A Delhi court granted custody parole to MP-elect Engineer Rashid, who recently defeated former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Baramulla.

The custody parole was granted in order to permit him to take oath as a Member of Parliament. The order was passed by the Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh of Patiala House Court after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) permitted Rashid to take the oath on July 5.

Although the interim bail plea of Rashid was not opposed by NIA, still it was pressed that some restrictions must be imposed on him like not speaking to or interacting with the media.

Rashid has won by a margin of over two lakh votes from Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency.

Since 2019, Rashid has been in jail after being charged by NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in an alleged terror funding case. Rashid is presently lodged in Tihar jail.
